ARC updates after playtesting

Post by ngoeminne » Sun Jun 12, 2016 19:20

Hey folks,

The ARC rules are updated to our play test findings.

- removed player card type
- cities start in play directly
- updated draw & resource - choices
- dropped life points, only victory points, players start on 15 VP, losing VP when you get damage, gaining VP when you win advantages, 0 VP you lose the game, 30 VP you win the game
- explained the resource visualization system
- casting creatures only in cities
- eased up on the move restrictions

More details on http://wtactics.org/wiki/index.php?titl ... es_Concept,
All feedback is welcome.

Kind regards,
Nico

How is this resolved time-wise? When a victory point is being "transferred" from player A to B, which triggers first?: Player A loses the game or player B wins the game? Or do they trigger at the same time?

At the moment this is not so super important but in the future we might have cards that make this distinction important.

Usually they won't trigger at the same time: One happens when you are attacked, the other when you do something else.

I guess the question is still there though for how to handle rare occasions if it would indeed be possible to happen at the same time. Most games handle that by giving advantage to either the "losing player" (however you measure that in a CCG...) or by just giving it to the player whose active turn it is.

Hi Ravenchild,

Thanks for the input. First of all the VP are not really transferred from player A to B.
When a player gets damage he/she loses VP's, the attacking player doesn't gain them.
When a player gains VP (e.g. when winning a cities advantage, or trough some other card), the other player doesn't lose VP.

The main reason to have a target maximum for a a game win, is that now you can build defensive/strategical decks that don't have to be damage based. (e.g. a MTG defensive deck still needs to kill the opponent, or live trough the opponent's deck).

The resolve is the same as in MTG, e.g. players can simultaneous reach 0 VP, or simultaneous reach 30, then it ends in a tie (e.g. to players shoot with a deadly shock). Game win-lose is at the end of the current phase (turn?).

Maybe we should have a rule 'when the rules are not clear follow your guts/Mtg', LOL,

Anyway, it's nice that you keep following the evolutions here.

I was thinking to make a 'WTactics ARC rules for Mtg players' page with a brief summary, focusing on the differences. Do you think that has any value?

Kind regards,
Nico
