Mind sharing/submitting your original inkscape file? Want to give tweaking a shot and also look forward seeing your own tweaks in accordance with Qx input... =)

Think it's close to as good as it can get wen it comes to red...

The Inkscape files can be found here : https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B-0EDi ... 0U3cENTSUk

A few notes : About the changes that I'll make, you can expect a new version on Saturday (Friday if I can find the time). I would normally have something within the hour, but I got a lot busier recently and exhaustion is hitting me hard.

I think we're very close to something...

Thanks for the original file, I fetched it and here's some very quick work that I did, slight colour adjustments and frakking up some elements just to give it a shot. All pics are of your red template, with the slight changes, showing various orc card art >>

Work file is here >> http://wtactics.org/files/pics/Red%20Ba ... 20snow.svg

What I notice with http://wtactics.org/files/pics/rbtemplate1ex3.jpg as a reference is that the red is too satured. I don't think we can do it better than you did when it comes to the red. Either we accept how reddish the template look sin http://wtactics.org/files/pics/rbtemplate1ex3.jpg and how it doesn't quite blend well with the mroe earthy unsatured orcish look, or we abandon red template and focus on the more subtle-brownish version that you and/or qx are doing.

Qx?

The template is really good, the only problem is it doesn't suit RB's rustic climate. Maybe we're wrong, and there's no such thing as rustic side of RB though.
I'm not sure what a "noble" word means in this faction, but it maybe can be expressed with this set of colors?
I've pushed the "internal" background more towards earthy tones. This is what I was thinking, when writing about "warm gray". I think the template looks better without purplish tint there.

I'll do my best to provide brown/gray stuff next week. I'll be busy as hell with stuff that actually keeps me close to the computer, so there is really good chance I'll make it.

Agree that your yellowish looks better. :)

When it comes to if this is usable for RB or not though I have a hard time deciding right now. What speaks against it is that the red might "conflict" with the more red-brownish tones they use on their uniforms. That, and the issue with the silver-ish lines still looking much like polished steel, which is what probably makes you think that they are not "rustic" and (rusty) enough for the template to feel like RB.

I think it can maybe be done better, but not necessarily using the red and silverish theme we have here. Hence it would be cool to see the earthy versions and see if the artwork feels more at home on them.

( off topic:

As for using this for the nobles I'm sceptical due to the name "red banner" - it will look kind of funny having a faction called that but another having the red template.

I imagined the House of Nobles to be dusky-unsatured-blueish, while the Empire is the purple we agreed upon some while ago. That said, now that I think about it, I have a hard time imagening a template that is purple and looks good... = / As it stands now though Empire colours from BfW are Red/White, so maye Empire could use this red one if all purplish fails... hrm... )

Let's keep it then. We can decide later what goes where, and change the logo if needed.

Red Banner may have diff. red used on logo in the other template. I also think we have a slight chance of creating contrast logo that will look good with current template (eg. in white) to target at what Empire needs.

As I promised, a new version.

New version here : http://i.imgur.com/D8Nnl.jpg
With Q_x's background colours : http://i.imgur.com/alKol.jpg

Changes in this version :
  • The silver border is now darker.
  • The borders around the card name area are darker.
  • The background (my colours) is lighter.
  • There is now a guy in the card.
I'm sure I mentionned this before, but working with red is annoying. I tried adding a tiny bit more red to the background and it looked horrible.

I'm glad to have everyone back. It's a lot easier to work when you know what you're doing wrong.

Also, if anyone wants me to add some of the older files to the Google Docs folder or wants the right to edit it, just ask.

To be absolutely honest, working is often annoying, and working with templates almost always is. It's subtle, it demands fresh eyes every time when looking at it.
The next step, however, that is making the cards, is annoying much, much more.

I really like the version with less pink inside.
I'm not really sure if it needs to be changed, probably not (or not that much).
If everybody is OK with it - let's keep it.

We can keep http://i.imgur.com/alKol.jpg and work from that with the tweaking. So, focus on that from now on, but make sure to keep every iteration as a file of it's own.

I'm interested in seeing it with some other alternatives to the silver... and/or something which makes it look corroded/rusty (or maybe that would kill the overall "clean" impression our templates give, I don't know... will require some testing back and forth.)

I've made an attempt at this in this version.

New version here : https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B-0EDi ... mhOX3RYSU0

Imgur isn't working for me at the moment, sorry.

Changes in this version :
  • Silver borders changed to copper(?)
  • Now using Q_x's background for future versions
The files for this version are Dirt Version 2.svg and /Pictures/Card - Dirt 2d.png
