Does this server support PostgreSQL? I'm thinking about using PostgreSQL instead of MySQL because Oracle does not seem to be a worthy successor for Sun.

It doesn't. I don't know how "standard" PostgreSQL is or how nice it playes with PHP. If it's not fairly common on "normal" servers then it will make your script used less by the world.

Is it out of ideological reasons alone (I'm fine with that, just curious) or functional ones? I'm clueless when it comes to db-stuff and don't really know any SQL beyond the trivial stuff when learning PHP. From what I understand there are pros and cons with all systems...

It's more an idealogical matter. But of course I'm also curious how PostgreSQL behaves in contrast to MySQL and SQLite.

But if PostgreSQL is not as available I'm ok with sticking to MySQL.
