Q x: /* Please notice */

{{toc}}
==Please notice==
1. In WTactics we used standardized measurement, meaning the ''Metric system'' that is used by the whole world and not the Imperial one that is slowly being abandoned by academia in the countries that still cling on to it.

2. All font units used in Inkscape are for some reason measured in pixels (px) at 90 dpi and not in real points (pt) as is the standard industry. This means that the sizes of a font in Inkscape are actually ''smaller'' when measured in points in other software. Therefore, when working inside of Inkscape, if you want to get a specific pt size you should multiply the Inkscape font size with 0.8. To convert font size from another software (pt) into Inkscape's font size (px) multiply the pt font size it by 1.25. We have filed a [https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/168164 bug report] about this but don't expect it to be fixed anytime soon.

3. All measurements mentioned in mm have been properly rounded up or down to zero decimals whenever needed.

==Industry standards==

===Font sizes===
It's suggested that MtG uses the following sizes measured in pt:

*Card type 9
*Cart Title 10
*Combat stats 10
*Card text 9
*Artist 6
*Version info 5

There is no industry standard when it comes to the fonts. Most games use their own typefaces and various text sizes. The ones found in MtG are however very clean and usually readability is kept high.

===Card Sizes===
An MtG card is 63 x 88 mm, setting what is a standard for the card game industry and the sleeves manufacturers, as well as other third party products like card vaults, archives etc.

==WTactics standards==

===Paper limitation===
[[File:Cardsize.jpg|right]]In general, almost anything can look good in any sizes when viewing the cards in their electronical version on a screen in a huge enough resolution. Today it is becoming more and more common with higher resolutions as a result of technical advancement on the consumer markets for graphic cards as well as screens. Given WTactics will also be printed as ''paper cards'' we must use ''that'' as our ultimate reference and always ask ourselves the question how the card will look when viewed in a hand, under normal poor lighting conditions, instead of asking ourselves if something looks gorgeous when zoomed in on a screen.

===Card Size===
The card size is set to 65 x 92 mm and is non-standard. The reasons for this departure from the standard are that:
# We gain a small amount of area. Our cards will have 8 mm2 larger paper area than for example a card from MtG.
# There is no good reason to keep it standard since....
# our cards will still fit in all [[Sleeves|sleeves]]/boxes and
# printing services will offer to print in whatever size we want.

Should there ever arise an incompatibility issue of some kind the players will always be free to print the game in any size they choose to and that suit their specific needs. Since we will be giving the high resolution original images as well as prepared standardized versions for printing there is nothing hindering people from printing the cards much smaller or larger if that is desired.

===Card Art===
The card art of the ''Merfolk Noble'' measures 56 x 54 mm. Please notice that the theoretical and accurate card art ''area'' in mm2 is not the same as 56 multiplied by 54 due to our Card Name/Type text container eating up some space as well. In comparison the max measurement of MtG artwork on a standard card is 53 x 39 mm. The effectively used area is larger in MtG, yet we will still pull off the interesting stunt of having relatively larger creature art work on our cards thanks to 10 mm extra space in height and our decision to use waist-up portraits.

The WTactics creature template, as seen here with the ''Merfolk Noble'', has a design that is heavily biased towards creatures that have a humanoid shape, which is usually equal with them being taller than fatter. This makes it harder for us to work with creatures that are bigger in width than height and the biggest drawback of the creature template is made apparent. In general though the trade-off will probably work just fine as most of the creatures in WTactics will be humanoid. In addition, this problem is solved on all the other card types as they use a different template where the Name container is placed at it's top instead of vertical center.

===Card Text===
The card text area traditionally holds specific rules associated with the card. The area is the very heart of the customizable card games and makes them modular and adds great replayability and the possibilities to create expansions.

We use a card text area that's 56 x 31 mm, while Mtg has a card text area that measures 53 x 24 mm. When we have space to use we will utilize stylistic 2 lines height drop caps to add to the aesthetics of the cards as they play well together with the fantasy theme and our templates in general.

take core concepts of ORC and whole project.
=Things like, for ORC: =
*Why turn-based system, and what turns do we have --- just an introduction to how the game can look
*Why and what tokens do we use --- our confession/justification to tokens problems and how we have solved it
*How playing a card looks --- word about our resource system
*How a fight looks --- step by step fight resolving, short tutorial
*What might be the goal of a game, and what not --- for future, I think
*How to change game length --- alternative goals for same ORC base ruleset

==Introducing alpha CS -- Introduction - purpose, address, ideas==
'''Status''': unreviewed

'''Hey all, it's cardscape time!'''

This is really fresh piece. Brand hot, new and alpha. With lots of missing features, but we are working on it. And it serves your purpose well already.

But, lets start from the beginning. It all, I think, started in snowdrop's head. Idea, enlightening whole this project, was to make new cards together - developers hand to hand with community. To enable you, dear reader, and other people like you, to influence the shape of the game. Seems like a weird tool had to be invented to accomplish this, if you remember the goal was also to keep the game quality really high, with asymmetric strategies for each faction. And since similar tool was nowhere to be found - Pennomi, Ravenchild, Slopes, DaBascht, ??? ??? and ??? liked the idea enough to make a tool to serve the purpose.

So, if you'd like to feel like you want to help with making the game too, look into wtactics.org/cardscape and register there. You can comment old cards (beware, the discussion is strictly on topic there, make off topic comment and it will be trashed), see the progress of new cards, propose derrivative card or totally new idea! The power is also in your hands, from now for eternity.

==Ways it works, what it enables people to do==
'''Status''': incomplete, due to cardscape incompleteness

Definition - prolly something like
Cardscape is a custom CMS made for the purpose of making customizable card games, tailored especially for WTactics, but after some changes applicable also to other card games. Purpose of this app is to empower the community of players to influence the shape of the game completely by proposing and discussing new cards and ideas.

sentence should go here

*Propose new cards
*Propose derivative cards
*Propose changes to a card
*Discuss ideas
*Track changes of a card
*View and search cards with custom queries
*Check author(s) of a card
*Check history of a card
*Check how a card looks

Dev stuff:
*Promote/demote cards
*Upload/change card image

==Ways to work with CS==

'''Status''': unreviewed

'''Develop the game with us!'''

Yes, we give you the power to do it :)

We happily would like to invite you to help us inventing new cards and playing with ideas. If you have some thoughts to share, please go to cardscape (link), take a look at what is in production and, if nothing similar is currently brewing, post your idea. If what you post will be good enough, it will go into playtesting, get an illustration, to be, finally released officially. You have like 0,1% for this to happen, but honestly, this is better than we, burned out developers, have. And We all will give our best to pay attention to all your best ideas end as cards.

Also think of good name, create funny/adequate/inspiring flavor text, surprise us :)

You can also propose derivative cards to one we already are working upon, this is when you'd like to tweak more thing or rebuild the card for different purpose.

And, probably most important thing is to provide feedback on the cards we are currently working on. If you played with the card a little test, see the idea is exceptionally good, but you know how to make it even better, just let us know about this in cardscape!

To be fair, there are some prerequisites one should fulfill before going there. Knowing rules, knowing major game ideas and, as always, keeping good netiquette is a must.

==CS - conclusions, presence and future==

=Things for whole project:=
*Recycling, why is it important for us?
*What do we recycle, what we provide to be re-used
*Why do we want to recycle, really? What are benefits and dangers of such approach.
*Why do we make CCG
*How we are supporting other rulesets
*What different is between our game and ordinary CCG
*What is different between us making CCG (first C = customizable) and company making CCG (first C = collectible)
*Red banner story --- just a shortie
*Gaian cards philosophy

=Also:=
*Our needs, development --- call for help, also a little bit of showing our weakness
*Our needs, community
*Our new artwork --- monthly summary?
*Comparative study of mechanics between us and MTG
*Desired gameplay model --- or what are we making really
*We want to be your side project --- call for contributors
